Fiber Construction Coordinator

 

Job Summary:

This position leads and coordinates a team of fiber construction crews along with resource allocation for direct construction activities for the company.  The employee is expected to coordinate the efforts of subcontractors and or Sellenriek employees to complete specific work tasks in a project-based environment.  The Fiber Construction Coordinator’s main role is to ensure timely construction to meet customer expectations and manage timelines of specific work packages in line with the project goals.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Will manage subcontractors and in-house crews.
  • The Fiber Construction Coordinator will report to the Construction Supervisor and/or Director of Operations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe environment and ensure all safety standards are met.
  • Oversee construction field operations while providing oversight of in-house crews, subcontractors and inspection activities.
  • Organize and schedule field activities and resources to complete the scope of work.
  • Must have the ability to forecast construction start and completion dates as well as identify issues that will cause delays.
  • Report issues or challenges to the Market Leadership and propose solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Directly responsible for the overall success of construction projects assigned including meeting project schedules and budget.  Strong construction management, reporting, and budgeting skills are a must.
  • Identify additional subcontractors/resources to support various construction projects and oversee their quality and schedule.
  • Understand the project scope and capabilities and sourcing appropriate local vendors that meet all company requirements.
  • Demonstrate attention to quality construction practices and ensure timely close out and delivery of the project schedule.
  • Ensure a timely build schedule by implementing cross-team management with other departments and entities.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience within the OSP communications industry with the ability to ensure high quality and safety standards.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, software, database and technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Products, and Google Earth.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and help others to understand how to build using the prints issued – required
  • Strong construction management, reporting, and budgeting skills – required
  • Must be safe and take ownership in safety culture.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma – required
  • Associates Degree – preferred
  • 2 years’ experience coordinating fiber construction or project builds – preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in utility pole line construction preferred
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred
  • OSHA 10 Certification required
  • Class E License – required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to ride in a vehicle up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.
  • Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
