VEHICLE TECHNICIAN (MECHANIC)

 

 JOB SUMMARY:

The Vehicle Technician will perform oil changes and minor maintenance/preventative care for cars, trucks, and other pieces of equipment normally used in construction.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Consults with field operator to collect information on equipment history, problem with the equipment, and/or known maintenance required.
  • Performs automotive preventive maintenance such as changing oil, checking and refilling other vehicle fluids, replacing filters, and inspecting and replacing lights and windshield wipers.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized area and facilitate a safe and secure working environment.
  • Examines critical parts and systems using standard checklists.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent mechanical skills.
  • Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of related experience preferred.
  • State Inspection Certification preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and maintenance required.
  • CDL Class license preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
  • Must have enough vision to inspect repair work.
  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day.
  • Must be able to ride in a vehicle up to four hours to travel to and from job sites.
  • Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Must have flexibility in scheduling as business requires.
